A note for the comments page please
Quote from the webmaster from October 2009
I will leave no stone unturned in my efforts to create a link to the Newquay Airport Web page
and since then all that has happened is that the link and all travel information has beeen deleted. I have a colleauge who can show you how to create a link, please e mail me if you want me to arrange this and I will get the link sent to you.  Perhaps your time would be better spent in keeping the site up to date rather than fill it with silly quotations and comments  that include

Whatever is going on, obviosly the lights are still out in the darkened room , has someone  locked you in ? Peter Jones    pjthebassman@yahoo.co.uk

The Webmaster is not inclined to comment on the above but is reminded of a quotation by Kahl Gibran : "The reality of the other person lies not in what he reveals to you, but what he cannot reveal to you. Therefore, if you would understand him, listen not to what he says, but rather to what he does not say" .

Super time at Golant over Christmas. Sorry to be back in the smoke now. Carols in the Church were just right. Happy New Year to all.   Jayne and Andrew Wrighton. Harrow on the Hill.

Hello Golant. We stayed in Golant in Easter and in August. August was very wet but we still enjoyed ourselves. Easter was fabulous with absolutely brilliant weather.  We really enjoyed the Easter celebrations at the pub and were delighted recently to see ourselves on your video slideshow. Congratulations to the organisers of the Easter events and to the person who put together the slideshow.  We would be interested to know how you got around the copyright with the music you added.                                                                                                                                           The Blakey Family.

Thank you for your comments. With regard to copywright on Utube: add the music and upload it. They will either reject it, accept it but limit distribution to certain countries, or accept it and then place an advert alongside your clip offering to sell you the record if you like it - this was the case with our Easter video. Webmaster

it appears  that you have given up on the website and not made any of the alterations and links suggested.  Why not freeze it , let it stay in its current form and get everything on to one of the social networking sites where any body can post comments and update the site. It seems as soon as you get ( mostly) constructive criticism that you over react , delete the guestbook, choose what comments go on the site, put on more ridiculous quotations that are totally timewasting and  irrelevant  and then do nothing about current content  by making simple updates to the site.  Friends tell me that the site once won an award from Restormel for its content  and layout, whats gone wrong since you won this ?  you obviously had the site working well once upon a time, such a shame its now so out of date on key content.     Peter Jones

Just for the record, as I say on the old guestbook page, the guestbook has been closed due to the large number of spurious and anonymous messages. One of these perported to be me handing in my notice!  Also, I have to be aware of the potential for litigation: I am personally responsible for any of the content.  I am sorry if I have been tardy in updating some of the links, but really, is the lack of a link to Newquay airport such a great loss?.... Thanks for the invitation to run the site, I would love to do it but live too far away. I think there are a number of points you miss, the gallery has ceased trading, why is it still featured on the website front page? It seems you have over reacted to a minor but constructive  criticism . It seems that Ozzie doesnt live near and he or she keeps in youch with the village via the website, to keep it up to date with events and links seems a reasonable requestSurely it cannot be difficult to create a page link for council planning and similarly how difficult is it to make a link to the Newquay Airport site. I also notice that the e mai address on the pc minutes is incomplete or incorrect. Maybe the time spent in adding a personal page called pearls would have been much better spent in keeping the main site updated. I am sure it is not an easy job and I am not a technical computer person but a few minutes of time directed to the right area would soon put things right. I have some really nice photos of the river taken last week if you need them.

As a response to the negative comments posted in this Guest Book I would refer the authors to the quotation to be found in the Pearls section:-

We cannot change anything until we accept it. Condemnation does not liberate: It oppresses!" ... Jung

Please let us have constructive comment and help for the webmaster who is unpaid, unloved and (now) unhappy!

I stay in with relatives in Golant at least three times a year and I run a Village website myself, therefore I feel able to add to some of the recent comments made about the performance of your website. I am familiar with the organisation of your site and am very aware of the stages of its development. On the website which I run, (with the help of several others) anonymous comments in the guest book are not allowed. We have found that, in the main, they come from spiteful, spineless individuals who simply wish to make trouble without revealing themselves. (Ozzie Resting please note!)
Secondly, from the tone of the message left by Peter Jones, one would assume that the Webmaster is a highly paid official rather than an unpaid volunteer. Hopefully, the boorish and ill-mannered tone taken by Mr Jones is not representative of your whole community. If Mr Jones finds the site lacking could he not have sent a direct message to your web manager? He noted that a link has been broken for over a year – had he, during that year, notified the Web manager of the break? Has he ever contributed anything himself to the site?
We enjoy your site, check it out at least once a week and find it informative and interesting, we accept its deficiencies realising that one individual is probably trying to do all the work. If anyone feels the site lacks anything, well they should provide it. It’s quite simple really!
Hoping to be in Golant for the Fireworks display that is always a treat.

Without wishing to sound defensive after the preceding messages
I have to make a few points. Re Peters Message: On the three computers
I have used this morning the Gallery link in the Homepage worked fine on each – suggest you
check your computer out Peter. The Planning link does not work because of the changes from Restormel to Cornwall Council; they promise me that this will be
fixed shortly. Peter: if you would like to compile an updated travel
section I would be delighted to include it, & this brings up an important point:
In the 24 months I have been looking after the website I have only had
Three contributions for the site – if it is to be a vibrant community site then
it needs lots of contribution from the community.
Tell you what Peter, why don’t you do it?

whoever the new webmaster is lets hope he or her keeps the site up to date. The travel section currently tells us about new routes for 2007 !! and is hopelessly inaccurate. PS The planning link doesnt work. PPS The gallery featured on the home page shut a year ago !!

just had to write this in support of your Webmaster. The ‘Ozzy’ correspondent clearly has very high expectations of the Village Web page. I wonder how many people are on the Web page staff?? And, I wonder if Ozzy has ever volunteered to provide pictures or articles for the Web page? If not he presumably expects the Webmaster to do everything.
I have been looking at the site since it began and, I can see it evolving for the better.
Quite honestly, once you have seen a Carnival Drag Queen or an oil drum raft, you don’t need the image updated each year. Perhaps what Ozzy is really cross about is that he is not seeing his own picture quite so much. Give your (presumably unpaid) web manager lots of input and maybe a bit of encouragement and I am certain that he will respond.

Great website but the new webmaster does not update very regularly. Any chance of seeing any recent events ie: Easter 2009, Flower Festivel 2009 etc. The Pill magazine does a magnificent job keeping up with all activities. The wesite used to be really good and current - any chance it can go back to being regularly updated with whats been going on. How hard can it be?

Ozzie Resting
