Whats Going On?

The following organisations are active within the village.

St Sampson Parish Council   meets on the third Thursday of each month (excluding August) in the village hall at 7.30 pm. The meeting is open to the    public. Preceding the meeting at 7.15 is the opportunity to view any planning applications and to raise issues with the parish council. The annual Parish Meetingng is normally held on the third thursday in  April.

Golant Quay Users Association

A meeting of villagers and quay users was held on 17th August 1959. An Association was formed with the object to ascertain once and for all ownership of the rights over the Quay and the use of the slipway. Donations were received and the GOLANT QUAY USERS ASSOCIATION was formed.  The first chairman was Mr R Duvollet of Riverview House.  Members were able to moor their boats and dinghies inside the Pill on properly numbered berths and a Constitution of Rules was drawn up outlining the do's and dont's for members.

At present the Association has 126 members with a Committee of 12. The present Chairman is Mike Harris of South Torfrey Cottage, Golant.

Anyone wishing to become a member should write to the Secretary giving addess, telephone number and details of the type of boat they wish to moor before the beginning of a new season.  Membership and mooring fees run from 1st September to 31st August each year. There is a joining fee for all NEW members.

Work is currently in hand repairing the Quay and Slipway and also clearing the path alongside the beach. Anyone wishing to help should contact the Secretary for details. The Committee wishes all present and future members a good boating season.

The Golant Boat Owners Association

The Boat Watch scheme was started in 1995 to combat crime and vandalism on or near the river at Golant. It is a very active oranisation and most boat owners who who are based in Golant are mebers of the scheme although owning a boat is certainly not a condition of membership. The patrols during the day and night, together with the ability of members to observe the river from elevated positions in the village enables little activity to go un-noticed.

The Boat Watch works very closely with the Police, Harbour Commisioners, Coastguard and HM Customs and has become so successful in reducing crime on this stretch of the river that the organisation is now used as a model throughout the South West by the Devon and Cornwall Police Authority.
